Despite all comments on the contrary, we decided to hit Bonville again.
I am beginning to think we are getting old and lazy! Lacking in the desire to try something different or new. Hmmmmm......................We return to the desert to try our hand again. Was it a desire to finally conquer the wasteland that has plagued our recent efforts? Or is it a desperate attempt to recapture the youthful exuberance we experienced in the early days of learning the art of angling?
Whatever the motive in the early hours of Sunday morning we hit the rising tide on Bonville Creek. (Was it Saturday or Sunday?) For those of you out here with young kids you'll understand the confusion. Especially since it is the Friday night after the weekend before!
It was an idyllic Spring morning, into which we launched the boat and headed down stream to make the most of the incoming tide. The tide was in full swing by the time we motored to close the mouth and decided to try a long drift back towards the boat ramp hitting he sandbanks and holes on the way.
I was the first to have a successful hook up landing an under size Flathead. With clear water and a heavy tide running it was a good start to the morning. Enz was the next to have some success hooking up on a nice fish, landing a 45 cm Flathead in excellent condition. However , unfortunately it was caught on an unattended line. It needs to be recorded that Gulp worms are a very good Flathead bait when left to drift.
And from that point on we both struggled yet again in the desert of Bonville creek. We even took a log boat ride up past one of our favourite spots "the Big Bend" with no success. When I say no success, I mean we had enough interest in the plastics we were offering the little bastards. They were just not interested!
So for a session in near faultless conditions the results was Geoff 2 U Enz Doughnut. However Enz was able to return home as the proud provider with a very nice fish for the table. (Hey Enz maybe you could add a recipe section to the blog?
Which means that I am yet again the victor. Now enjoying a 3 fish advantage at the business end of the season. It will take a monumental session to peg back what only can be described as a commanding lead. Given the events of the next month or so (40Th Birthdays, Moving House, Trips to NZ).I find myself enjoying the prospect being the first to be able to claim victory in the cauldron of Shrike fishing.
The crown of Shike Fishing Champion beckons......................
All Hail the Ale
