Sat 22 Sep @ Boambee

Well we brushed away the cobwebs and blew away the dust, dug around in our garages and uncovered long lost fishing gear! OMG has it really been since May that we last had a session on the water! 2013 has proved to be a challenging one to find the time for angling!

We decided on Boambee with a gentleman's start to the day, around 10am'ish. Geoff was so out of practice he left the fish net retrieval thingy at home (... I've forgotten everything)! Pleasant sunny day with HT around 11am, we spent most of the day drifting on an outgoing tide.

Geoff picked up an undersized Trevally before I got there with the forgotten net. A bit of a slow start, we had most success up Newports Ck. We both had 1 or 2 undersized flatties, but then I picked up 2 legal flatties (around 37-38cm) and a legal bream. I also got an undersized Mulloway or something a bit different.

Geoff only managed 1 legal flattie, around 39cm ... on his last cast of the day ... which subsequently meant a few more 'last casts' were required! He did pick up plenty of stick fish and a few tree retrievals as well during the day, he he he. He also managed to jag a small mullet (scourge of the estuaries) which he stuck a big jig head through the lip and dragged about Newports for an hour or two hoping to attract something big! Alas, it proved to be just a weird 'let's walk the mullet around the creek' experience so he ended up letting it go. I felt the fish knew too much and should have been dispatched!

So 3 points to 1, I extended my lead - hopefully we'll get back on the water very soon and get the fishing tournament back on track ... probably need a fully fledged fishing weekend/expedition to balance out the long hiatus!
