Pine Creek 22/01/2011

It is 64cm of healthy flathead, and I was the lucky bastard whom managed to land it!

We hit Pine Creek on the incoming tide, to mixed results. Enz took an early lead in the session, in the upper regions of the creek , with a couple of undersized bream. I counted with an undersized Flattie and bream of my own to square things up.

There was plenty of activity on the water and as we made our way downstream working the snags, Enz was the first to produce a promising result of sorts. Getting his Wasabi wriggler ,bitten off by something very aggressive. Giving me the chance to land an undersized Trevalley an take the lead. 3U-2U Geoff

We continued to work the snags down stream and I managed to land another small bream. 4U-2U Geoff.

We Continuing downstream and found ourselves in the clearer water as the tide had pushed right in and the rain had began to fall. It was then when Enz was working the edges that I managed to entice the large girl to have a go at my 100mm lava wriggler. And the reel began to sing. She put up a good fight. But eventually , after some good work with e the net by Enz, we were able to land a very nice flathead. There was no doubt that it was a legal and the only question was whether it would break the SFC tournament record for a flathead. After some very tentative handling of the big fish, it measured a 64cm. A new SFC record and a bonus point to me under the 2011 scoring system. RESULT!!!!!

We continued to travel downstream on the full moon high tide and found ourselves in a Mangrove flat that is usually inaccessible by boat, but due to the very high tide we were able to drift down.

There were plenty of fish visible, however none seemed interested in any of our plastics. We even resorted to throwing the gold bomber at stingrays to no avail.
Enz started to use his small hard body bream lure and managed to land an undersized bream. Unfortunately thou as he was dealing with his undersized bream in the boat I managed to hook up on another flattie. This one was just legal. 2L -0 to Geoff

We continued to drift downstream, toward the boat ramp and Enz managed to land 3 more undersized flatties ( one on an unattended line).

Within 50 metres of the boat ramp , Enz hooked up again and in the clear water we both could see that he had hooked a decent legal flattie. A scoring fish and possibly a nice meal . However, within 6 feet of the boat Enz was busted off and his only scoring fish for the day was lost. Absolute heartbreak for Tonto.

We headed directly to the boat ramp after that.

So the session ended with Geoff winning 2L-Nil with a bonus point for a new Tournament record for a flathead at 64 cm.

Which means that Enz's lead in the SFC was short lived. With Geoff leading the tournament 3-1

p.s It was also agreed that an additionl point will be awarded to the angler whom catches any fish using the gold Bomber lure.
