Boambee - Sat 19 Feb 2011

Well we finally got on the water again last Saturday morning - hit the water at about 6am and fished all morning until 1pm. Was a very warm day on the water with a very high tide late in the morning due to the full moon. We'd hoped to work some poppers over a large weed bed flat however there was too much water over the top to make it worthwhile!

We went right down to the bottom end and drifted in on the incoming tide and the clear water - spotted a VERY BIG flathead in about 1-1.5 m of water - easily 80cm probably bigger! We quickly scrambled to get lines in the water but to no avail!

Very long fairly quiet morning, with several undersize flathead caught. Geoff did pickup up a small bream on a popper - jagged the little bugger - but is one he can mark off his fishingo card! Geoffro also got himself an undersize Jewfish, which was a nice change from the usual.

Geoff got the first legal fish, a 36cm Sandy Flattie. I followed up an hour or two later with a 50cm Dusky caught on a 100mm Wasabi wriggler ... very pleased with that one, a species PB, another item crossed off my fishingo card, and a tasty meal on the BBQ on Sunday night!

I did flick around the gold bomber on the shrikecaster a couple of times ... but only because it was soooo quiet! I am able to control my vices! March flies were also a little annoying causing the boat to veer towards the mangroves at one pint as the driver got distracted - enough said on that matter!

Anyway, had enough of Boambee - time for a change of scenery next time, and hopefully a few more fish.
