Firstly I would like to say that I am glad that I wrote the result down after our last session. As due to generally being slack when it comes to updating the Blog and DIY fever. I hadn't got around to updating the blog until now.
Secondly I would like to say that the above picture was actually taken after our session on the 24/07. But seeing as neither of us took any photographic evidence on the 31/07. Hopefully it will serve as a lesson to the both of us..
As to the session on Sunday 31/07 ...........we headed down to Urunga on a very chilly morning hitting the water around 0800hrs to try the rock walls in search of some good fish. Knew it was cold as we both broke out gloves in frosty conditions. Enz took the early lead with a very nice 26 cm Bream from the Kalang River rock wall. He quickly followed it up with another legal Bream ( 29cm) and was out to a very early 2-0 lead.
As the tide began to change we headed to the lagoon on the Bellingen River rock wall and enz was rewarded with a couple of undersize flatties. We decided to leave the shallow water of the lagoon and ventrue into the Bellinger river and work the outer rock wall. This proved successful for me with a very nice 48cm Flattie landed followed soon after by a 42 cm Falttie. All tied up again.
Our time on the water was limited so we headed upstream towards Mylestom with little success. The electric running out of power didn't help us at all. So we had to go old School and fire up the motor each time we wanted to move.
We then headed to the Shortcut channel to see if we could find more favourable drifts seeing as the electric was dead. We both landed a couple of undersized flatties but as our deadline was approaching we headed to the junction of the Kalang and the Shortcut channel to try a final few casts. I flung a 100mm blood worm up near a small drop off and was rewarded with a 38cm flattie. VICTORY!!!!!!
So a short session on Urunga ended with Geoff Victorious 3-2 and the lead in the 2011 championship is restored to the encumbent champion.
Is this the beginning of the end to Tonto's 2011 challenge for the Shrike Fishing Championship. Will he look back on this session as the point at which his hope began to fade on achieving the illusive prize. Is this the defeat in 2011 were his resolve finally gave way.
Only tomorrow shall tell.
