So we finally got back on the water after a self enforced hiatus. Thanks for the pics Enz. And yes it is a stargazer and YES it is a new Species. However going back through the blog every time a new species has been caught and that particular species had no legal size it has only counted for one point. See Enzo's Estuary Cod 30/01/20010. Possibly something to discuss at the next competition meeting.
We hit top boat ramp on Boambee at around 0800 , around 2 hours after the high tide. Was a very slow start with neither of us getting any interest for the first hour or so . we headed up Newport Creek to try the flats up around the back of the Airport.
I was the first to land a fish with a respectable 27cm Bream caught on a 80mm Gary Glitter Wriggler. We continued to head up stream , mainly due to the wind pushing around as the battery for the electric was struggling. Unfortunately it appears that we are up for a new Battery! As we continued to nurse the battery, I landed my next fish a 38cm Flathead still using the Gary glitter.
Shortly after I spotted a little run off into the main channel with a deep hole and a fall tree at its entrance. Lobbed Gary Glitter into the deep hole and was rewarded with a very nice 41 cm Flattie. 3-0 and very happy about it
We decided to head downstream , as things had gone very quiet. With the electric pretty well stuffed now we rafted up and waited for the tide to turn. We headed down towards the Jew Hole on the turn of the tide. Both of us landing a couple of undersized flatties. Enz changed to a green bug wriggler with red eyes and got instant results. Landing a couple of more undersized Flathead and dropping a legal flattie at the side of the boat. Enz finally got a point on the board with a just legal 36 cm Flattie.
I was the next to hook up , at first i though I was snagged up. But then the snag began to move. I suspected I was on to a good stick fish. But the feedback on the rod told me otherwise. I managed to land the freaky little thing that was later identified as a stargazer. If we are all god's creatures then this little bastard of a fish was created when God was hung over after a night drinking Tequila slammers with Charlie Sheen and his Goddesses.
Enz Got the last fish in the boat a good 41cm Flattie. With time running out we got off the water at around 1500hrs.
So a convincing victory to Geoff 4-2.
The pressure is firmly on Enzo now we are at the business end of the session again.
Will he be able to dig deep and find the form he needs to regain the lead?
Will the bitter taste of his past failures , steel him into action to make a bid for his first title?
Or will he continue to choke like an All Black at Rugby world cups.
Finis prope est ... asino meo!
